Community Involvement
On December 9, the American Cancer Society received a donation totaling $10,743 raised by the incarcerated population of California Men’s Colony (CMC).
Community Resource Manager Jim Bonnifield and several CMC self-help group sponsors organized the event at the request of the incarcerated population. The effort had the full support of acting Warden (A) Danny Samuel.
The effort began in October. That’s when the incarcerated population participated in the annual American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraiser. It was also a breast cancer awareness event.
The event allowed those living within CMC to join the nationwide effort to find a cure for cancer. Incarcerated participants walked predesignated routes within the institution, making donations to the American Cancer Society from their personal trust accounts.
Warden (A) Samuel described the fundraiser as a “great event.” He also said he was appreciative of the generosity shown by the incarcerated population.
